What this task is
Listen & Choose a Response is the quickest Listening task. You hear a single short spoken line — a question or remark of about five seconds — and select which of four written options is the most natural, appropriate reply. It tests real-time understanding of conversational English and pragmatics.
Instant, deterministic grading
Your choice is checked deterministically against the stored correct option for an instant score. The audio plays once by default, mirroring exam conditions; practice mode lets you replay and read the transcript after you answer.
Strategy tips
- Listen for the function of the line — is it a request, an offer, a complaint? The best reply matches that function.
- Rule out replies that answer a different question than the one you heard.
- Natural English often answers indirectly; the most literal option isn't always right.
- Practice with single play so exam-day's one-shot audio feels normal.
