Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data toefl-prep collects, how we use it, and the third parties that help us run the service. We collect only what we need to give you practice and feedback.
What we collect
Account information: your email address, and — if you sign in with Google — your name and basic Google profile details.
Practice data: the items you attempt, the answers and written drafts you submit, the speaking recordings you make and their transcripts, and the feedback generated for you.
Billing information: if you subscribe, your payment is processed by Stripe. We receive your subscription status but never see or store your full card number.
Usage data: basic, largely technical information about how the app is used, to keep it working and to improve it.
How we use your data
To run the service: serve practice items, save your progress and history, and provide automated feedback.
To generate feedback, your written and spoken responses are sent to Google for processing — Vertex AI (Gemini) produces the rubric review, and Google Cloud Speech-to-Text transcribes speaking recordings. We do not sell your personal data or use your responses to train third-party models for advertising.
Service providers (subprocessors)
We rely on a small set of providers to operate: Google Cloud (Vertex AI for review and item generation, and Speech-to-Text for transcription); Stripe (payments); Neon (our Postgres database); and Vercel (hosting, and Blob storage for audio).
We use PostHog (product analytics) and Sentry (error monitoring) where they are enabled; when these are active they help us understand usage and diagnose problems. This list may change as the product grows; we will update this page when it does.
Cookies
We use an essential cookie to keep you signed in. We do not currently set third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If that changes, we will update this policy and provide any consent controls required.
Data retention and your rights
We keep your account and practice data while your account is active so your history and progress remain available. You can request a copy of your data or ask us to delete your account and associated data by emailing us; we will act on verified requests within a reasonable time and as required by applicable law.
Children
toefl-prep is intended for exam candidates and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our practices change. Material changes will be reflected in the date above and, where appropriate, communicated to you.
